MARY ELIZABETH LAMBERT SIEGFRIED
June 22, 1849 - July 29, 1924
Mary Elizabeth Lambert, oldest daughter and fourth child of Richard and Jane Thornber Lambert, was born in Rock Creek township, Hancock county, Ill., one-half mile east of the present Lambert homestead. All her life, up to 1870, with the exception of a short perion when the family was in Western Iowa, was spent in this community
On March 4, 1869, she was married to Samuel Siegfried, who lived one-half mile southwest of the Lambert home. For approximately one year following her marriage she and her husband resided one-half mile northwest of the old homestead. December 16, 1869, her oldest son, William Henry was born. In the early spring of 1870, with her husband and infant child, she made the journey by team and wagon to Allen county, Kas. Here they resided until the spring of 1875, when they came back to Hancock county, Ill. Hardships, trials and privations incident to pioneer life marked her experiences in Kansas. Every year was almost a total crop failure.
With her husband she retired from the farm to Independnce, Mo., where they resided until her death, July 29, 1824, and her husband's death, August 7, 1926.
