JOSEPH RICHARD LAMBERT
Oct. 5, 1845 - Feb. 17, 1932
Joseph Richard Lambert, second son of Richard and Jane Thornber Lambert, was born in Hancock County, Illinois. Following his education at rural schools in Hancock county and at the Fort Madison Academy, Fort Madison, Ia., he was married to Anna Chambers Phelps December 11, 1873. To them were born Richard J., Edward C., Matilda J., Maude May (now Mills). He was ordained an apostle in Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ in 1873, traveling widely in the United States. From 1873 until 1882 he resided at Magnolia and Dow City, Ia.; 1883 until 1919, Lamoni, Ia.; 1919 until date of his death, February 17, 1932, Independence Mo. A staunch and fearless defender of the truth as he comprehended it, he was always active in church work.

Burial: Lamoni, Decatur, Iowa
Joseph R. Lambert was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 5 November 1865 (1863) at Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, by James Burgess. He was confirmed by James Burgess and D. H. Smith. Joseph was ordained a teacher on 8 December 1865 at String Prairie, Lee, Iowa, by Z. H. Gurley and A. H. Smith. He was also ordained a priest and an elder. He served as an apostle from 1873 to April 1902, when he was ordained an evangelist. He served as a patriarch from 1909 to 1913. He attended the Lamoni, Iowa Branch and the Independence, Missouri Branch.
