The Snow Family, Boston Transcript, Note 2685 pt II, says John Snow married
his cousin's sister-in-law, Sarah Stevens. After moving to Chelmsford from
Woburn he moved to Dunstable. Nottingham West was set off from Dunstable and
later called Hudson, New Hampshire. The history of Hudson (Kimball Webster)
says John Snow was among the first settlers in town. All the town meetings,
with a single exception, were held in his home, until the first meeting-house
was completed. The exact date of his settlement in Hudson is not known. He
was assessed for 1733-34 only. He was first town treasurer. The town records give his d. date as Mar 21, 1735. The inscription on a headstone in a small burial ground near his former residence does not agree with the records and gives his age as "68 yrs. 4 mo. 3 days" This would make his death Sept. 16, 1736. He appears to have had the title of Ensign.
BURIAL: The Snow Family, Boston Transcript, Note 2685 pt IV, gives his d. as
Sept 16, 1736 in Nottingham West (now Hudson, New Hampshire). Says according to Stearns in his History of Hudson, John Snow was buried in the Ford Cemetery.; History of Hudson by Kimball Webster, p 413 says that his grave is the oldest in the Ford Cemetery and dated 28 Mar 1735. He says that that cemetery was used by residents of the south part of the town.
BURIAL: Grave of Ensign John Snow is in the Ford Cemetery in Hudson, NH. It is located beneath a tree near the G grave marker next to the grave of his son Lieutenant Joseph Snow. The Ford Cemetery is located on Musquash St. Directions to the cemetery: Take Lowell Road to Dracut Road, Dracut to Sanders, Turn left at top of hill onto Musquash, the first right is the cemetery.
BURIAL: "South End or Ford Cemetery, 1735-1901", unknown author, says "The most ancient date found in this yard is that upon the headstone of Ensign John Snow, 'who departed this life March the 28th, A.D. 1735. Aged 68 Year, 4 month, and 3 days.' This headstone is a very thick, wide and heavy one but not very high; and bears the most ancient inscription of any, not only in this yard, but it antidates, by several years, any other in this town. This yard contains about one half acre, and is enclosed by a stone wall with an iron gate."
There is a marker on Musquash road .02 miles from the Ford Cemetery which shows the location of the home of Ensign John Snow where all of the first town meetings of Hudson, New Hampshire were held.
Webster's History of Hudson includes Ensign John Snow and Joseph Snow as two
of the eighteen taxpayers in present Hudson in 1733.
