Tree: Winter Quarters
Notes: Site of the "Old Blockhouse" originally built in 1839 as a fort for two companies of troops to keep the peace among the Pottawattamie Indian tribe which had been moved to the area from Missouri. Catholic Fathers De Smet and Verreydt later moved into the buildings and used them as church buildings. The buildings stood when the early Latter-day Saints began building settlements in the area.
