1846 because of religious persecution Mormon pioneers left their beautiful temple and lovely homes by the banks of the Mississippi River at Nauvoo Illinois to begin their epic journey to a new home in the mountains of the American west.

This was the beginning of a story that would cover two decades, 1846 - 1868 of the trek of these faithful souls.  They crossed walking beside covered wagons, and pulling handcarts; sailed from Europe, traveled by river boats, and railway.

This is a record of these noble pioneers and the trails they traversed.  As they traveled they built communities, way stations to benefit those who would follow.  They married, bore children and many times buried their loved ones who perished because of the rigors of the crossing.

In this database we have endeavored to recognize these Latter-day Saints giving information about their lives and families, when and where their settlements were established and who lived and died in these then remote places.

From Nauvoo, Illinois; Iowa City, Iowa and other departure points across the plains of Iowa some going through Garden Grove and Mount Pisgah to the east and west banks of the Missouri River at Kanesville (Council Bluffs) and the 90 plus other settlements in western Iowa as well as Winter Quarters (near Omaha) and settlements in eastern Nebraska they left a legacy of faith and forbearance.

We welcome you to explore this database; you will find individual and family information in family group, pedigree and descendant reports some with photographs as well as biographies, settlement histories, maps, cemeteries, and timelines that will help you understand their lives and times.

The creation of this database began in 1987and is an ongoing process,
