Alfred Walter Head moved to Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, in 1847. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War. He was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 22 October 1871 (1870) at Sonora (Nauvoo), Hancock, Illinois, by Joseph R. Lambert. He was confirmed by D. F. Lambert. Alfred was ordained a priest on 6 July 1873 (October 1872) Jos. R. Lambert. He was ordained an elder in 1892. He attended the Stewartswill, Missouri Brance, where he taught Sunday School for 20 years. He was a member of the G.A.R., Custer Post at St. Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri.
